Driving this perpetual change in 2012 are the celebrated men and women of the new AD 100, from and influential decorator working solo to visionary architects managing a spectrum of satellite offices. The esteemed firms saluted on the following pages represent a fellowship of trailblazers and standard-bearers whose work is imaginative, intelligent, and inspiring.

INTERIOR DESIGN: FOX-NAHEM ASSOCIATES
Established in the early 1980s by Joe Nahem and the late Tom Fox, the New York City firm Fox-Nahem Associates is known for spirited, unpretentious rooms executed in a range of styles and often complementing serious architecture (from Stanford White to Paul Rudolph). The company’s appreciation for design spans the centuries, too. George Nakashima’s rugged wood tables appeal to Nahem and his crew as much as neoclassical Swedish antiques or a vintage sofa whose shapeliness compensates for its undeterminable provenance. Such thoughtful, cultivated permissiveness gives the firm’s interiors a welcoming sentiment, whether the mood is glamorously contemporary or urbanely traditional.
